BTS and DUT
Vocationally oriented degrees, Brevets de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) and Diplômes
Universitaires de Technologie (DUT) are prepared in two years and have common
traits.
The BTS are prepared in a high school in the higher technical sections
(STS). They are aimed primarily to young people from technological
baccalaureates (nearly two-thirds of students) or professionals. They target a
professional specialty in an industry. There are over a hundred specialties in
four areas: industrial, commercial, health and paramedical and arts.
The DUT are prepared in an University Institute of Technology (IUT) attached to
a university. They cover a broad career field: there are 25 specialties in the
tertiary and secondary areas. They offer a more general teaching that the BTS.
Two thirds of the students are from DUT general baccalaureate. In the end, this
diploma fits better in the prospect of further education (professional license
or license and master at university schools of engineering and business in
parallel admission, other specialized schools ...).
The preparatory classes
Preparatory classes are in two years to contest the schools of engineering,
business and teacher training colleges. It is possible to redouble its second
year since it is at this time that students prepare competition. However, it is
forbidden to repeat the first year .In case of failure to competitions,
universities can offer to review the file, préparationnaires the first year or
the first two years of license.
There are three types of preparatory classes:
- Scientific preparatory classes
- Economic and trade preparatory classes
- Literary preparatory classes

March 20. You can make a maximum of 12 including 6 maximum vows vows by: [L
channel (4 channels), EC industry (5 channels), S chain (9 tracks)]
Engineering schools or post-trade Bac
Some schools of engineering and business are recruiting directly after the
ferry on file or via a contest. One way to avoid passing through the prep.
Engineering schools admit Maths graduates, experimental sciences, sometimes STI
by specialty schools: agronomy, biology, chemistry, electronics, computers,
mechanics, physics ...
Most entries are made on the www.admission-postbac.org site that collects INSA,
ENI, the competition Avenir, common prépas (CPP, ICC, CPPBX ...) some schools
FESIC and fifteen other schools. The other register directly on the school
site.
Business schools recruit mainly among the general baccalauréat Maths,
experimental sciences, more rarely among the holders of a general baccalaureate

throughout France.
Universities
Universities offer basic training, technology training or professional purpose.
They cover all disciplines and also prepare students for research or for entry
into professional life.
The studies are organized into three grades:
License: (+3)
Professional license which access is selective, is
preparing over 2 semesters in a Professional University Institute (IUP) which
depends on a university, after a bac + 2 degree (120 ECTS credits): L2, BTS,
BTSA, DUT , DEUST.
Master: (+5)
Doctorate (+8)
The specificity of medical studies:
Since the academic year 2010/2011, the reform of the first year of medical
school is in place. This reform is mainly the creation of a common first year
health education (PACES health or L1) for the 4 sectors: medical, dentistry,
pharmacy and midwifery; redirecting students is possible at the end of the
first semester or first year and the introduction of a passport system. It is
advisable to be well informed on the website of each university.
Special schools:
Public or private, special schools are extremely varied, sometimes expensive
and of uneven quality. Three, four or five years after graduating, they prepare
for jobs that range from the social sector, to paramedics, communication and
the arts ... Many private art schools cover multiple areas: graphics (
esag-Penninghen ... LCA), Design (Esat space Blue school, Créapôle ...),
styling (Esmod ...), computer graphics (Supinfocom ..) interior design
(Académie Charpentier, Camondo .. .) ...
Schools of Architecture:
Three types of schools award the degree in architecture. These are public
architecture schools (six in Ile-de-France, fourteen province), a public
engineering school, higher National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) in
Strasbourg, and a private school, special school of architecture (ESA) in
Paris.
Institutes of education policies:
There are nine IEP in France: Paris, Toulouse, Lyon, Rennes, Strasbourg, Lille,
Aix-en-Provence, Bordeaux, Grenoble. Studies last 5 years. First three
multidisciplinary years, followed by two years Masters specialization. Entering
a new policy institutes is competitive or folder with honors in tray to Paris,
Rennes, Strasbourg and Toulouse. The IEP Aix-en-Provence, Lyon, Strasbourg,
Lilles, Rennes and Toulouse are organizing a common entry contest in first
grade. Online registration from 1 March until three weeks before the
examination date.
Housing:
Research to your home before you leave, especially if
you are going to study in Paris. Rents are higher there by about 50% compared
to the province of dwellings.
In addition to rental housing in private, you can
appeal to university residences that offer rooms (9m) or small apartments (T1,
T1bis, T2 roommate). The surface of these varies between 15m² and 35m². If you
choose this option you will need to make your application together with your
application for admission to an institution. The body responsible for
university housing is the CNOUS (Paris region) or CROUS (province).
The Family Allowance Fund will deliver you, according
to your rights (based on your income), financial assistance to housing. Once
installed in your home, go to the CAF in your department or fill out the online
folder directly on the www.caf.fr
Usually the file is processed quickly and you will benefit from the APL or ALS
in the second month rental. Know that the first month is never subjected to
such assistance (month waiting).
