BTS and DUT

Vocationally oriented degrees, Brevets de Technicien Supérieur (BTS) and Diplômes Universitaires de Technologie (DUT) are prepared in two years and have common traits.

The BTS are prepared in a high school in the higher technical sections (STS). They are aimed primarily to young people from technological baccalaureates (nearly two-thirds of students) or professionals. They target a professional specialty in an industry. There are over a hundred specialties in four areas: industrial, commercial, health and paramedical and arts.

The DUT are prepared in an University Institute of Technology (IUT) attached to a university. They cover a broad career field: there are 25 specialties in the tertiary and secondary areas. Universities offer basic training, technology training or professional purpose. They cover all disciplines and also prepare students for research or for entry into professional life.

The studies are organized into three grades:

Professional license which access is selective, is preparing over 2 semesters in a Professional University Institute (IUP) which depends on a university, after a bac + 2 degree (120 ECTS credits): L2, BTS, BTSA, DUT , DEUST.

The specificity of medical studies:

Since the academic year 2010/2011, the reform of the first year of medical school is in place. This reform is mainly the creation of a common first year health education (PACES health or L1) for the 4 sectors: medical, dentistry, pharmacy and midwifery; redirecting students is possible at the end of the first semester or first year and the introduction of a passport system. Special schools:
